Scientists in Nigeria Produce COVID-19 Vaccines

The produced vaccines are currently awaiting clinical trials and approval.

Even as Nigeria proceeds with the distribution of the COVAX Facility donated Astrazeneca vaccine from Oxford, Nigerian-based scientists have gone ahead to produce some vaccines awaiting clinical trial and approval.

Boss Mustapha, Chairman of Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 says these vaccines developed in the country will soon pass through clinical trials before they get approved by the regulatory agency.

“The revelation that scientists in Nigeria have developed not less than two local Covid-19 vaccines that are awaiting clinical trials and credentials is noteworthy.

“This is a significant development that will open a new panorama in scientific breakthrough and will do well for the morale and image of the medical profession in Nigeria.

Boss Mustapha then calls on agencies relevant in the industry to provide necessary support and enabling environment for the easy conduct of the protocols remaining in the certification of the produced vaccines in other to encourage researchers in the country.

Telcom giant, MTN recently donated 300,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines.

The FG is also expecting millions of AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson to be imported into Nigeria in the months to come.

The FG stated that it plans to vaccinate roughly 109 million Nigerians against Covid in two years.
